High Desert

We\’re already passing the term\’s half-way mark, and I don\’t know about you, but this is the point where I start setting up rewards if I get things done well and on time.  One of the best rewards can be setting up a new place to visit, and if you haven\’t spent much time east of the Cascades in Oregon, you are in for a treat!  It could be a trip to the High Desert Museum just south of Bend when you are skiing nearby, or a camping trip in the spring. Hope to see you out there!

Cultural and ecological exhibits make the High Desert Museum a highly-rated educational (and entertaining) destination.

Behind-the-Scenes

We have two favorite reptiles: peacock day geckos.  Both were wild-caught from islands where they are invasive species.  One is learning to be hand-fed.
Peacock Day Gecko
Like many vertebrates, these geckos take a lot of care.  This little cutie arrived malnourished (you can see his spine protruding in this photo shot before the video) and eats three different types of live animals and four types of fruits in tight rotation.  He also gets regular misting, a heat lamp, and his own habitat since the two geckos don\’t get along (of course!).  If all goes well, they can live 10+ years with us.
