Here We Go

Now that the week #1 is underway, you have an idea of how the course is structured and that your grade is constructed of quizzes and journal pages.  The key to success is steady progress, completing and turning everything in before the deadlines.  We hope you find this material interesting and something you will use well beyond BI 101.

Mark is moving in close to get a detailed garden photo. Whenever possible, get on the same level as your subject for a new perspective.

Getting Close

Many of the photos in these first few week's of class were taken in our yard, on campus, at the Oregon Garden, or at last year's Benton County Fair's Master Gardener Display.

Fair Garden

Many of the photos in these first few week’s of class were taken in our yard, on campus, at the Oregon Garden, or at last year’s Benton County Fair’s Master Gardener Display.
Many of the plant videos are coming from our own gardens, which are primarily planted for wildlife.

Journaling Ideas

Learning a general topic like “flowers” can seem overwhelming.  Sometimes it helps to specialize and focus on a more specific topic to develop expertise.
Here we are visiting a rose garden, the perfect place for journaling.  This is the Oregon Garden in Silverton.
You really can’t visit Portland Oregon without a walk through the rose test garden.
Journaling can have an impact on what you get out of years worth of educational experiences.
layers

An interesting journaling exercise is to select a pattern, like spheres, dendrites, or in this case, layers.  Find or think of as many examples of that pattern as you can and journal your results.
