Guide 1A Biodiversity Objectives

This guide’s quiz has four questions; one matching each objective.

Patterns of Nature

Describe what a pattern is; provide examples of patterns in nature; and list the patterns used to determine whether something is alive.

Classification

Explain why it is important to classify organisms and describe the contributions of Carl Linnaeus; list the three Domains of life and four Kingdoms in Domain Eukaryota; and if provided a plant, classify it using these terms: non-vascular or vascular, spore-bearing or seed-bearing, a gymnosperm or an angiosperm, a monocot or a dicot.

Flowers

Label flower structures and functions, relating flower structures to fruits and seeds; identify different types of flowers and explain how their structures relate to pollination; and describe the characteristics of flowers that attract specific animal pollinators and contrast them with the flowers of wind-pollinated plants.

Fruits & Seeds

Discuss seeds, including the parts of a seed, the process of germination, and examples of commercially important seeds; classify different types of dry and fleshy fruits; and provide examples of different forms of fruit and seed dispersal.
