Guide 3B Marine & Climate Objectives
This guide’s quiz has four questions; one matching each objective.
Marine Life
List the various ocean zones and describe the relationship between currents and nutrients; provide examples of marine plankton, and macroscopic producers, and describe how changing ocean conditions may impact ocean organism; and describe the diverse species classified as marine mammals.
Reefs & Shores
Describe the relationship between corals and zooxanthellae and explain the process of “coral bleaching;” explain the relationship between kelp, sea urchins, and sea otters in a near shore habitat and define what a keystone species is and provide examples; and describe the risks to organisms in the tidal zone and explain how (and why) life survives in tidal zones.
Climate
Explain how sunlight distribution leads to varied ecosystems; describe the impact of altitude and north vs. south-facing slopes on mountain habitats; and provide climate conditions and representative organisms of polar regions and tundra.
Biome Patterns
Describe light and the colors we see and how they relate to leaf colors in various habitats; provide characteristics of water and plant responses to water availability; and describe how plants are impacted by, and respond to, wind and extreme temperatures.
