Guide 4A Terrestrial Biomes Objectives

This guide’s quiz has four questions; one matching each objective.

Forests

Compare and contrast the characteristics of taiga forests, temperate forests, and tropical rainforests; describe characteristics of ferns and mosses, plants commonly found in forests; and distinguish between five types of conifers: pine, fir, spruce, cedar, and sequoia.


Grasslands

List characteristics of grass plants; describe the characteristics of temperate grasslands and tropical savannas, including the role of fire in grassland ecosystems; and use field markings to identify birds.


Deserts

Describe the climate and soils of desert ecosystems, including the significance of microhabitats; provide examples of succulent plants, including where they store water and the leaf modifications of cacti species; and list characteristics of reptile species.


Resources & Sustainability

Define sustainability in reference to humans and the environment and provide examples of three principles of sustainability that are derived from nature; list various types of resources and the role of a resource manager; and describe the challenges of addressing human impacts on climate.
