Planning Ahead?

Just like everyone else, I’ve had a hard time planning over the past few years. We have been trying to stay as flexible as possible in teaching while still keeping everyone moving forward, making degree progress. Being able to get outdoors and shoot videos for this course has been a breath of fresh air (literally) away from the computer. Immunity and overall health depends in part on managing stress. Take a break, a deep breath, and reflect on all you have accomplished in these extraordinary times.

One of the best ways to keep track of complex and overlapping processes is to sketch what you know.

We know we are supposed to heat and/or cool certain foods, but the temperatures required may be a surprise.

A poster that assembles like puzzle pieces can be an effective way to bring related concepts together. This could be an interesting way to address one of the final portfolio outcomes.

Behind-the-Scenes

We get asked where all of our images come from. Many we take ourselves, like most on this webpage, but we also have a subscription to Shutterstock, a company that provides images used by media outlets for a monthly fee. The artists are incredible and sometimes take photos or produce digital illustrations by request. If you need images for reports, you can also search for free stock images, there are many available online. Some require citing the source in exchange for the free access.

Location Shots

If we can do it safely, we are trying to get videos at locations where you may encounter this content in the future. With masks, cleaning wipes, and a social distancing plan, we are cautiously venturing outside.

Blood Models

Dolls that represent white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets? Yep, they exist, although we’re not sure why :).

Awesome Summer

Maybe the best thing about working at home has been spending more time outdoors this summer. This year we had daisies springing up everywhere.
