Planning Ahead

It has been really hard to plan ahead with the uncertainty we are all facing. But there are some things we can control, and for Mark and me, that means gardening. Planting a seed and waiting for results is the one little part of the world we can impact. There is something so hopeful about starting with a pile of dirt and a handful of seeds.

Behind-the-Scenes

A look at the kidney with an unusual vintage stain.

We’ve been spending so much time outside in the yard shooting videos that it has been possible to enjoy a lot of spring.

This course has been a fantastic excuse to acquire and study vintage microscope slides. Maybe when there is a bit more time, I’ll get them photographed and added to a website since some of the views are unique and quite beautiful.

Empty Playgrounds

We had a chance to shoot some photos and videos before March, and even then, parks were already empty. We are looking forward to the day they are filled back up with kids of all ages.

On Location

Typically we would be teaching most of our online labs on location, but now everything is shut up, like this hotel pool. On the positive side, we are figuring out that many things can be done at home, where most of our learning happens anyway.

The Good Side

It is really easy to focus on the negative aspect of events. A positive note may be an increased emphasis on finding ways to reduce stress.

Taking a Breath

This has been our busiest time teaching ever, but we have gotten through the critical stages of course dynamics and background content. Next we’ll head into diseases, including learning together about covid-19.
