Guide 2 Movement Objectives

This guide’s quiz has four questions; one matching each objective.

Skeletal System

Provide examples of different organ systems, including the hierarchy of organ system, organ(s), tissues, and cells; describe skeletal system structures and functions, including the system’s organs, tissues, and cells; and identify various bone disorders, including the organ that is impacted.

Muscular System

List and describe basic muscle system structures and functions, including the basic microanatomy of “bundle within bundle” structure; describe the functional difference between a tendon and a ligament and explain why both are hard to heal; and describe the impact of aerobic and anaerobic strength-training exercises on skeletal muscles.

Cardiovascular System

Label the structures of the heart, including the chambers, coronary vessels, and cardiac cells and explain what occurs in a “heart-beat;” describe the structures and functions of arteries, veins, and capillaries and their relationship to blood pressure; and list the various blood components, including the relative amounts and roles of red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), and platelets.

Cardiovascular Disorders

Describe various vascular diseases, including hypertension, hypotension, strokes, and atherosclerosis; explain what is occurring to the heart in a myocardial infarction, a heart murmur, congestive heart failure, and arrhythmias; and list the types of information provided in CBC and CS blood tests.

Complete all four sections and take the quiz on Canvas.

Use the learning objectives above to guide your studying.

Journal Assignment #3

Introduced in the Skeletal System section of this guide:

Journal Page #3: Quiz Analysis

Now that you have taken the 1A quiz and are beginning material for the 1B quiz, it is a good time to reflect on studying and quiz preparation.

Answer the following questions on a journal page.  You do not need to include the questions, only your responses to each question.  You can include additional relevant information if you like.  Simply writing the responses may inspire new study strategies.

Provide thorough and complete answers to each of these questions on your quiz analysis journal page:

  1. Did I recognize all/most of the material on the quiz? ___________ (can indicate whether studying covered the full range of material)
  2. Did I think I would perform better on the exam than I actually did? ___________ (indicates learning to recognize material rather than retrieving answers)
  3. Were there multiple answers I changed, or wasn’t sure about? ____________ (if correct answers don’t pop into the mind, studying may address this)
  4. Did any particular source of material seem to cause more difficulty than other sources? (text or videos?)
  5. What was my study strategy for this quiz?
(time spent, study locations, study materials made, etc.)
  6. What are two possible ways to improve studying and learning material for the next quiz?

Journal Assignment #4

Introduced in the Cardiovascular System section of this guide:

Journal Page #4: Heart Model

For this journal page you are making a model of the heart that teaches basic heart anatomy and shows how blood circulates through the heart.  This is your original work, we are providing ideas, and you are making your own heart.

Your model should include: oxygenated blood, deoxygenated blood, various vessels (vena cava, pulmonary artery, pulmonary vein, aorta), lungs, and heart (all four chambers, valves).

You model could be a drawing, puzzle pieces, a digital animation,  a poster, a clay model, or other creative representation.

You are turning in:

A journal page with evidence of the model you have constructed, including information on how it functions.  This could include a labeled sketch of the model, a series of photos, a photo and detailed description, a video showing the model, or other representation. If the journal assignment file is very large, like a long video, you may want to host it on a website to reduce upload time.  Your model should demonstrate basic heart anatomy and show how blood circulates through the heart.

You can involve family members or housemates in constructing and/or demonstrating the model, if desired.  Be creative and have fun creating your model.  This could be an excellent piece to add to your final portfolio.

Journal Page Directions

To be completed after taking the quiz on Canvas.

Upload your two journal pages to Canvas.  If the files are really large, it may help to host it on a webpage and submit the web link to reduce upload time.

All three assignments are due by Friday 11:59 p.m. P.T.  Once you have taken the quiz on Canvas and uploaded your two journal pages, you have completed this guide.
